How is Friend 2 relevant to OP's post if her husband also provides her with a good life and there are presumably no tradeoffs involved?  Does a good life mean they can afford homeownership, their own retirement, and their kids' education are adequately funded? Also, there is disagreement on this board as to whether it is fair or moral to compromise your own children's future in order to supplement your parents' lifestyle, so Friend 1 is not necessarily a good example.
