I call and report these people to the county(MoCo). I'm a runner and my various routes take me anywhere from 3 to 7 miles and after it has snows a few times, you get to know who the deadbeats are - it's always the same people. I give them 48 hours to get it done and then my criteria are this: if the sidewalks leading to their house and/or their driveways are shoveled but the sidewalk in front or the side of their house is not, they get reported. Did a 6 mile run today and have a list of 20 or so down county houses - we'll see where things are Tuesday morning.
Good for you. I'm going to start doing this too. I've started walking 5+ miles a day to get healthier and I have been so frustrated and disheartening this week with the icy sidewalks. Even in boots I was slipping and it was scary. I had to go into the street to avoid walking on sheets of ice and that was scary too. It made me mad thinking about my elderly parents, pregnant people, people with disabilities, people pushing a stroller or a cart with their groceries who wouldn't be able to get where they're going safely on these sidewalks. WE LIVE IN A SOCIETY. Everyone needs to do their part. No one cares if you shovel your own driveway, except if that's the way mail carriers or delivery drivers reach your house. Do better.
