Again, wages on average are much lower in Japan.  There was a WSJ article detailing Japanese quitting professional jobs to move to Australia and work in food service and make 50% more.

Here's what you need to get - we are talking about food quality.  Relative to cost and affordability, the main theme is that food tends to be healthier and take priority for freshness and not have a ton of toxic ingredients in it.

So you can say whatever about how great US is but on the subject of food you got no leg to stand on.

As I indicated earlier it's a cultural thing - the US simply does not care about meals the way it's respected and enjoyed in other cultures.  If you have done any traveling anywhere outside the US you would agree with this.

So it follows that even if you can get delicious meals here and I'm not suggesting otherwise, the majority of foods whether fresh or prepared is significantly cheaper and/or higher quality in almost all other developed countries.

I think there's a lot of stuff great about living in the US.  Food quality is not one.  Infrastructure/public transport is not one.  Negative points for health care.  Negative points for violent crime.  We have a lot of probs just like every other country but the most pathetic of all is that we cannot as a country own up to the fact that we are most def not number 1 globally.  We are awesome and def a leader in the world but domestically, we suck. [/quote]
