OP here. Thanks for all the advice. I started to take the advice to be direct and talk to my friend and let her know I wouldn’t be attending specifically bc of I’m afraid of her dog given it’s violent history. But then I decided to run that by another friend in the group to get her thoughts and she said to absolutely NOT do that, as pitbull friend does have fragile feelings and would never get over it. When I brought the subject up, she actually shared her own different stories about the dog’s violence in the past. So there have been even more incidents than either one of us was aware of. So this friend suggested that we just completely ignore pitbull friend’s invite to host the girls nite at her house, and throw out some restaurant options to meet at. This friend said she didn’t want to do potluck anyway right after Thanksgiving, and said she will back me up. So that’s the plan for now. If you guys are interested, I can post later with an update on if/how it all works out.
This sounds like a good solution and glad your other friend is backing you up. Yes, please update this thread with what happens!
This is so how I knew she'd find resolution in commiseration and passive-aggressive behavior. I skipped to the end to confirm. You literally are too uncomfortable to say 'I'm scared of your dog and cannot come'. You'd rather ask online advice, back channel and ally than to just be direct. You sound like you're in middle school. Some of you never grow up. Gross.
