Well in America, we have this concept called "innocent until proven guilty," which requires you to have something called a "trial" to determine what we call "guilt." Until then, they are not "criminals," as they have not been convicted of any crime.

I'm not sure how you have gone this long not knowing these very basic concepts, perhaps you are new to our country? If so, maybe consider relocating to a country that better reflects your values, where indiscriminate and indefinite detention without a trial is normal. I'd suggest North Korea.  [/quote]

The above sentiment is why a) crime continues and b) criminals are often repeat offenders. Lock them up. Throw away the key. This is where the left sounds insane. No, it is not authoritarianism to jail known criminals apprehended in the act of committing a crime. These are not innocent, do-gooders. These are bad actors who on the whole have achieved billions of dollars in damages to retails institutions, many of which are now shutting permanently in certain neighborhoods. It is completely insane to me that the left are screaming  that we cannot imprison criminals any more. Our cities are going to dog poo. Crime is up by over 40-50% in many places. This is not just petty left but VIOLENT crimes, including assaults, rapes, and murders, and your response is "WAAAH, we cannot jail thugs apprehended mid-crime because it is too authoritarian".

Dems have lost the plot. Sit this one out, and let the rest of us try to regain a safer country.[/quote]

And? When they are extremely violent they don't belong on the streets. I honestly do not care how they got to that point but I'm not about to let innocent people get shot or robbed of their livelihoods because of violent criminals. Dems are too busy talking about the "why" that they skip understanding that we need severe enforcement mechanisms now. It won't make you feel better knowing that your loved one was shot by someone who "didn't have much to lose". Dems will lose this election cycle and next if they cannot figure out how to combat crime. Right now, that is my #1 issue and I, like PP above, am a NPR donating, public school supporting, liberal who has spent my whole life working in liberal fields. [/quote]
