As a Wake grad, I absolutely would have HATED a city school. Yes, I loved the traditional campus experience. It is named one of the prettiest time and time again. I have said it on this board before, but just walking around campus calmed me. It was 100% home for those 4 years. It was a bit of a strange choice, as I was leaning towards liberal arts schools in PA (closer to home), but visiting during March Madness my senior year at the tail end of a particularly crummy winter in the NE made me certain of my choice. I got the acceptance and didn't look back.
Winston Salem has changed a lot since your time there. There are now a bunch of restaurants, bars, and breweries downtown that are frequented often by the students, in addition to the Wake downtown facilities— state of the art new medical school and research facilities. Best of both worlds with the beautiful suburban campus and the city amenities college kids care about 10 minutes away.
I have heard this - Haven’t really been back in quite a while. That’s great that Winston has changed. Of course, the school has gotten bigger, too.
