The rule changes caused a 20% drop in the number of Asians in the TJ freshman class, and it mirrors a nationwide movement to reduce the number of Asians in magnet schools.  NYC, San Francisco, Philadelphia, Boston, and MCPS all did the same.

NYC is notable in that the Asians are poor, and the URMs there have other pathways to success.  But they did it anyway.

I'm Asian, and all I want is [b]to be around the best.[/b] I don't care what color or race they are. It just so happens that the best are Asian. I'll still make sure that I will stand out, because being around the best motivates me. My kid is the same.[/quote]

The concept of [b]their[/b] being a "best" in something as complex as academic and career achievement in a variety of social enterprises is where the disconnect is, I think.  [/quote]
