FWIW, I’m a fat woman and I really, really want Wegovy and others in this class of drugs to be safe. I am concerned about the mental health effects of these medications, though. One of my old friends from high school has bipolar illness and just shared on social media last week that she admitted herself to inpatient treatment for suicidal ideation and severe depression recently. As a result, she stopped taking the Wegivy she had begun taking. Her clinicians for her brain illness said that they had had several patients on that class of meds have extreme emotional dystegularion followed by suicidal symptoms and had to stop taking them as a result. I’ve been following a lot of the very promising research on ketogenic therapies for bio polar illness and depression, and it’s clear that diet changes can have a huge impact on brain function and cognition. It scares the heck out of me that these medications could worsen my depression, but I am SO envious of those who have had success with them and wish that for myself.
You could always start a low dose and stay there rather than moving up. And I mean this with love, but the bipolar people I have known, especially when they have been have been hospitalized, the “news” they bear from doctors is best taken with a grain of salt.
