We chose an all-boy school for high school for my sons. Too much weird crap like that at our public MS. It’s been fantastic and the boys are more open to expressing feelings and are very considerate and supportive of one another.
Exactly. Let’s help these rich white boys support each other in their rapey and discriminatory activities the way we have for centuries. I find it hilarious that people all of a sudden want to protect their fragile little white boys. Minorities and to some extent white women have been told throughout history that they do not matter and are “less than” white men, through actual policies that matter in day-to-day life, not a dumb seminar class that the participants forget after a year. Now when there is a shift to the other extreme it’s all “Two rights don’t make a wrong! You’re going to drive these white boys towards Trump!” because the assumption is that white boys can’t handle someone calling them out, aggressively and unfairly, and don’t know how to respond productively other than shutting off and seething.
Interesting. So you condemn a child you’ve never met based on their gender and race? Where have we heard that before? Who else says that sort of thing? And about whom? You more like the trumpians than you like to think.
We hear that from WHITE MEN, and have for centuries. And they act through political and economic systems with far greater reach and impact than a HS freshman seminar class. I find it interesting that most of these replies are “complain to school” or “this is why we sent our son to a homogenous white boys school”. Very few posters have said they want to teach their white sons 1) why toxic masculinity is bad and their sons should avoid it, and 2) how to respond productively to potentially unfair and antagonistic criticism* being leveled at them. I think it is because they feel, in their heart of hearts, that this seminar is a temporary exercise in discomfort before they go on to embrace their destiny of masters of the world. * That is assuming OP’s teenage son is not exaggerating
FGS. That’s called proper upbringing and I’m perfectly capable of teaching that at home. By all means keep teaching, it’s all about the consulting $$$ anyway. To truly understand why we are inundated by ideology, some of which is laughable even if you agree with the underlying principles, follow the money. It should be my kids’ right to opt out explicitly or implicitly. That’s what we are doing.
