The VDOE website does not list all my degrees. It does correctly list my endorsements, which is the part that matters to the legitimacy of my license . My principal probably doesn't know all my degrees or where they are from, because he managed hundreds of people and trusts that HR vetted me appropriately. My social media doesn't list all my degrees because I'm not a braggart and I haven't bothered to update my profile since I got it. HR does know my degree and the school that awarded it, and they pay me accordingly, which is the only part that matters to me. You are convinced that this teacher is misrepresenting herself because she chose not to document her educational career in a way that satisfies you, when she is under no obligation to do so.
According to the VADOE, if a teacher has a degree that they are being paid for, it would be listed in the Education section of their license on the website. FCPS EER says if there isn't a doctorate listed on that license, they are not getting paid for a doctorate. So as many posters have pointed out -- why should I care what she calls herself? It's not like she's getting paid as a Dr. Are you saying that is not true? That you received a new degree, that gave you a bump in pay, but it does not and will not show in the Education section of your license on the website?
Let me clarify something’s for you OP. 1. Not only does it take the state forever to update their system but it also requires the teacher to pay to have the system updated. 2. VDOE does not determine teacher’s pay. They give out the licenses and review the requirements for those but do not require constant updates of degrees. 3. The people who determine a teachers pay and what level they are paid is their county. There is really no benefit to paying for VDOE to update their database regarding your degree. In the end, your basing your judgment of a teacher on things that do not require updates. And your list of reasons why you should know this person on a personal level are not exactly “personal”. You can’t say you KNOW anything about her choices. Like a PPer said- maybe she just doesn’t care to flaunt her education. My daughter had a teacher 3 years ago in elementary school who would get mad at the kids if they forgot to call her Dr. __ or address her as Dr. in emails. Does this teacher put people down for not calling her Dr.? I feel like you have a grudge for your kid being accused of something and instead of focusing on your family, you are wasting your energy on this. She may not be your kids teacher anymore but you always are. Honestly, it sounds like you should take 2 minutes to talk to this teacher instead of attacking her. You may find out you’ve been obsessing over nothing. But I can guarantee you that NO ONE will want to respond to someone in the way you’ve handled this.
