Northeastern's rise in the rankings has been meteoric, but has the quality of education actually increased that much since the 1990s when it was basically open admissions? My fartknocker cousin went there in 1995ish as a last resort when he couldn't even get into UMass Amherst. His nickname in the family was "short bus" because he was so dim. A lot of the now elite schools had acceptance rate of 40% 50% 60% back then.  
UMass Amherst is a couple of levels down. 67% acceptance rate.  Welcome to the 21st century.
