Of course people want to know. Did the driver have a medical event? Were they suicidal? This whole thing is just so bizarre.
I agree, it’s really bizarre. I suppose there could have been a medical emergency that could have caused an acceleration, or an issue with the vehicle or something. But the angle at which the crash occurred is strange and it must have been at a pretty high rate of speed.
I'm kind of flabbergasted you think it's bizarre. People drive recklessly and stupidly *every day* in the DMV. Areas like Courthouse are dense with pedestrians and retail, yet municipalities refuse time and time again to make them more safe. This kind of accident is 100% predictable, not bizarre. People crash into houses, light poles, other cars, bikes, children, every single day.
I’m not trying to be rude but are you familiar with this intersection? courtHouse Road starts as an offramp at route 50 with a stoplight, one block then a stoplight at the courthouse/bayou bakery. One more block then a stoplight at the intersection where he was coming from at Wilson. One of those lights is generally always red. In my 20 years of living here I’ve been able to go straight off 50 to where the pub is without getting g caught at one of those lights. How someone could get up enough speed to cause it’s kind of accident is certainly bizarre and flabbergasting! I’m wondering if he hit the gas instead of the brake.
This area is one of the highest traffic fatality areas in Arlington. Have a look for yourself. https://www.arlingtonva.us/files/sharedassets/public/Transportation/Documents/Action-Plan_revised_draft_v3.pdf He was likely racing the light to turn left onto Wilson and lost control. Happens ALL THE TIME. And a car only has to be going 25-30 MPH to do some real damage.
I don't think you know how to read a map. Check your sources again.
Here's Arlington's Vision Zero dashboard. Looks like there's been a fatal accident at that exact intersection before, and multiple severe injuries on the surrouding blocks. https://www.arlingtonva.us/Government/Programs/Transportation/Vision-Zero/Maps-and-Safety-Data
Again, you have some sort of rare map impairment. It shows a fatality at the intersection of Clarendon Blvd and N Courthouse Rd. This accident was one block over, at Wilson Blvd and N Courthouse Road. That is not the "exact" intersection.
I'm truly not understanding what point you're trying to make. Are you trying to argue that this was some kind of murderous Anne Heche copycat? Given the previous fatality in this area it seems likely there are road design issues that could be improved for safety.
