She's anti-abortion which means she is against women getting necessary healthcare, so no, I would not vote for her. Being anti-abortion is an extreme position no matter how "moderate" she seems in relation to the even crazier people. I admit that before Dobbs I might not be so single-issue on this, but there's just no way I would vote for any anti-abortion candidates at this stage after seeing the implications of Dobbs. And I have a lot of issues with Biden, no faith at all that Harris would make a good president. But I'll still vote for them since they won't work actively to put my life in danger.
The majority of voters support abortion ban after 15 weeks with exceptions for rape, incest, and health of the mother. Would you consider that a pro-life or pro-choice position?
So you think the majority of voters support Lousiana forcing a woman to carry a fetus with no brain to term? I tend to disagree with that assertion.
How about that 16 year old in Florida who's not mature enough for an abortion, per the court, so must carry the baby to term. Do you think most people think that's a great ruling?
No, that was a dumb ruling. My point was more about bringing some measure of nuance back to the debate. Abortion restrictions have always been in place and have always been supported by a majority of Democratic voters. We're in this weird place now where it's become hyper polarized and based on the soundbites you either have to be a theocratic lunatic who supports a total abortion ban or an amoral anarchist who supports free abortions up to the moment of natural delivery. This type of hyper polarization seems to excite activists (on both sides) but just leads to deadlock and hurts everybody else.
In what way do you think Liz Cheney's position on abortion is "nuanced"? She is anti-abortion, and celebrated the Dobbs decision. Just because she won't openly call for refusing rape victims abortions or say that ectopic pregnancies can be salvaged, does not mean that she is supportive of women's health. She is not. Btw "free abortions up to the moment of natural delivery" is not and never has been a thing and nobody supports that. The abortions that happen late term are done because of terrible circumstances. Doctors do not kill viable babies.
