Nope, we've done our part. We socially distanced, masked, sent the kid to virtual school in 2020-21, got vax'd asap. Is he is asymptomatic, or has mild cold symptoms, he is going to school. Fever or vomiting, I'll keep him home, but otherwise we are done. [/quote]

As a teacher with a parent in cancer treatment, I don’t care if they test or not. I assume I am exposed every single day. It’s important that I am not around my parent if I am sick. Being around sick kids is part of being a teacher and no, I’m not teaching in a mask. I have been a lot sicker and so have my own kids for regular colds this spring than we were with covid.  My parents also had covid and their symptoms were mild. [/quote]

My cancer patient mother (who lived with us) got pneumonia from a common cold pre-Covid. And there was no vaccine for that cold! It’s unfortunate that there is yet another virus in circulation, but sickness is a part of life and the vaccines work very well. They largely even work for people who are immunocompromised (I.e., cancer patients). You can’t expect people to alter their lives indefinitely for what is effectively a cold for most people now. The COVID variant now is different then the one in 2020. The cloth masks that people were using then helped with the original variant and Delta but not omicron. Most people are not buying K95 masks because they are not comfortable, are not reusable, and are more expensive. To top it off, finding a K95 masks that fits kids well is harder. The K95 masks are the only ones that work over a period of time, like the school day. There are a good number of studies showing that the cloth masks are not effective. So no, the masks most Americans are using are not effective against the Omicron variant. Unless you are advocating for the Government to buy and supply the more expensive non-reusable masks for people you are not going to find too many people willing to buy those masks. [/quote]

NP, but if the benefit is small and the cost large, not wearing a mask seems sensible to me.  You personally may view the benefit of masking as large or the cost as small, but this is certainly not the modal perspective.[/quote]
