“Elite” in 2022 isn’t the same as in 1980. The up and comers like NEU and public Ivies such as UNC and Penn are not only delivering value but also proving themselves the proving grounds for the new “digital” economy.
I agree. NEU is definitely T20 already and likely T10 soon because of its ingenious "business model". 1) NEU makes the application process simpler, so many can apply. No need to write love letters to NEU to get in. 2) NEU focuses on a vocational education with co-ops, since most students want a job (not necessarily some high-flown education to "broaden" the mind). That means there is not need for expensive "nobel-laureeate" faculty either, the cheaper ones do a better job in fact. 3) NEU doesn't mind squeezing students into hotel rooms and over-admitting students, since it knows that it only adds to its mystique of too much demand for its services. 4) NEU is opening more and more campuses, so there will be one near you. It uses data science to admit people and increase yield. We love our top companies like Apple on how they cater to their customers. NEU is run by business people and like a business. They will eat the stodgy administrators at other traditional T20 places who have never been out of academia for lunch. NEU is the future of higher ed.
