I for one will make sure my children learn all about Democrats— the party of slavery. No matter how many statues they remove or building names they change trying to hide.
Hi there. I'm a Democrat and yes, we should absolutely teach about political parties that supported slavery in the 19th century. You see, Democrats today do not believe in hiding things like this, even if it doesn't portray our 19th century party in a good light.I have no love for Andrew Jackson. He was an appalling person and should be taken off our currency -- don't you agree? I am secure enough in my own beliefs that I have no problem with making clear the terrible mistakes of the Democratic party in the 19th century, and shining a light on the racism of its early members or even current members if they demonstrate it. I also believe that we should teach about how the parties shifted views in the 20th century, about how southern white Democrats left the party in droves to join the Republican party because of northern Democrats pushing for civil rights legislation. And name names. People iike Strom Thurmond, a member of the Democratic party who was a staunch opponent of civil rights legislation and a staunch supporter of segregation, who thankfully left the party to become a Republican. Do YOU support teaching that 20th century history, even if it shines a bad light on your party? Do YOU condemn people like Storm Thurmond for his repugnant anti-civil rights beliefs? FWIW if the stances of the Democratic and Republican parties had not changed at all since the 19th century, I would not be a Democrat today. Maybe that's the difference between modern Democrats and modern Republicans --I am a Democrat but I put my beliefs and the country before the party. But Republicans are all about the party and will absolutely put it before the common good and the good of our nation.
