It pisses me off people cannot cool it with their behavior to help keep our kids health and those who are vaccinated healthy. Unvaccinated in this area are not the issue and there are plenty of vaccinated cases so we need those not vaccinated to get vaccinated and everyone to cool it for a few months so we can try to beat this. AND, we need to get vaccines to other countries given US citizens feel the need to travel abroad and bring it back. Its not as simple as just getting unvaccinated vaccinated anymore. It truly sucks. Some of us have kept our kids home for over a year and are easily looking at another year. At this point, we are not sending our kids back and have zero plan since we are not prepared to homeschool. Never in a million years would I have considered covid. So, I blame all those traveling, dining out, having large parties, indoor activities, etc.
Covid never had the features of a disease that could be eradicated. No virus with an animal reservoir can be eradicated. The goal was to stay home to create fewer infections so most people would meet the vaccine before the virus. Somehow this notion that herd immunity could be reached and that eventually Covid would go away took hold, and it’s a hard idea to shake. It’s led to lots of blaming and moralizing about the spread of a virus, and it’s not helpful. I understand that many here (including myself) spent more than a year staying home, believing that if we could avoid an infection until the vaccine was available, we would never get Covid. It was the reward for being responsible. Except, it turns out that the benefit of the vaccine is to reduce the odds of severe disease. We will all meet the virus, it’s just a question of whether we get the opportunity to be vaccinated first,
