What are the differences between Dig In, Koa, and BCC Prospects for a high schooler? They are all in the same geographic area, seem to market themselves about the same. Tryouts are spread from late June through August, and I can't figure out what to do if DC is offered a spot on the first team he tries out for, since he won't have tried out for the others yet. Any info on how they differ? We are not into the whole college showcase thing, but rather simply very competitive and challenging ball for our baseball driven kid. But this seems to be what is available.
I think I would rank them: 1. Prospects 2. Koa 3. Dig-in This is based on my limited interactions with these programs. More importantly I would research who the coaches are and see if their vision for development and playing time aligns with yours and your players.
And that’s where it gets tricky - Dig In’s tryouts are first, so if they offer a spot you have to decide before you know if you made Koa or Prospects. In addition, there are multiple coaches (from what I understand) for different level teams on Koa and Dig In, at least. I don’t think the coaches are published. And what would research mean? I am I supposed to ask to interview them?
NP: I totally know what you mean. We are in the midst of doing the same. What has been helpful (my DH has been doing it) has been researching these teams on gamechanger. See how many kids are on the rosters, look through some games. Much useful info can be found. How many kids pitch in a tournament? How much do kids move around in the field? Are there a few kids who get almost no playing time? Look through a few games at the beginning of the season and at the end and see how much the roster changes (did kids leave? Did they add more?). That sort of thing. You may also discover an acquaintance’s kid plays on that team (someone you might be able to call or email for general advice), and the coaches are often admins on game changer so you can see who they are. Teams often keep a lot of players and coaches year to year so if your kid is say, 14u next year, look at 13u for this past year. You can also find info on USSSA etc if the team doesn’t have gamechanger.
