My daughter and I had Friends on yesterday as we were doing some mindless work. It was the time period around the wedding/Rachel’s surprise pregnancy. Ross started seeing Mona. She was very cute and a better match for him than Rachel I was actually mad when they forced them together with a kid and the stupidity in the finale. They no longer made sense.
I would have been pissed if Ross and Rachel did not end up together. It's escapist entertainment. I want the happily ever after.
DP. In my opinion the writers drew out the Ross-Rachel thing for so long that I didn’t care about them getting together in the last episode. If you try so many times with someone and it never seems to work, maybe it’s just not meant to be!
Yes! The series lost me because no matter what it was - the topic was really drawn out way too long. Friends probably could have been condensed to five years, easy. I felt at the time (I was the demographic/age they were going for) the characters were too much of something or another: Rachel was too princessy, Ross was too whiny, Phoebe was too ditsy, Chandler was too sarcastic (and I love sarcasm), Joey was too dunce-like, and Monica was too anal. I get it, they had to have a "thing", but they latched onto that "thing" instead of creating more interesting story lines.
Get out of my head! Are you me? By season 5 or so, the whole show was about the character flaws you mentioned above. I watched until the end, but there is so much that bugged me.
I thought Chandler lost a lot of his sarcastic nature when he got with Monica. And after Vegas, I was tired of will they / won’t they! They made Monica and Chandler work, Big Bang couples worked and still be funny. Amazing they couldn’t make Ross and Rachel work and still be funny.
