In the midst of all criticism and bashing, let’s talk a moment to congratulate the Basis graduates for a very solid performance and wish them great success!! Thanks for the teachers as well! For all Basis students, you have the grit to make it! Truly not for everyone! “ Based on to the 2021 U.S. News & World Report college ranking data, 100% accepted to a four-year college or university 97% accepted to Top 100 Best National Universities 85% accepted to a Top 11 Public University 60% accepted to Top 25 Best National Universities 22% accepted to Top 10 Undergraduate Research Institutions 16% accepted to Top 15 Best National Universities 12% accepted to an Ivy League school UVA, ranked #4 Public Schools, accepted 40% of our applicants compared to 28% of all in-state applicants. Additionally, William & Mary ranked #11 in Public Schools Nationally, accepted 50% of our applicants.”
So they all got into their safety schools, only 60% made it anywhere remotely elite, and a handful hit the top tier. Why is that exceptional among DC area privates? Next year's senior class will also be noticeably smaller since their HS pipeline has really sprung a leak after this bunch. That's what happens when droves of 8th graders don't continue.
WTF? I am no defender of BIM, and would not send my kids there. But the scarcity mindset behind the bolded sentiment is so far removed from reality. Other than the self-fulfilling prophecy of brand name prestige, there is not nearly the gulf you seem to suppose there is between HYPS and the rest of the top 25-ish universities. NO ONE, not even in the DC area that is apparently saturated with near geniuses, should be disappointed over "only" going to Georgetown, Northwestern, Duke, Vanderbilt, Rice, or the top SLACs (where the emphasis is actually on teaching more than research). People who think like that baffle me.
