It already is taking its toll. Homicides are up like 300% this year in MoCo. There was one last night too. And while it's not a verified source, the local police union says they have responded to 25 additional non-fatal shootings, that we don't necessarily hear about.
Homicides in Montgomery County, Maryland: 2014: 19 2015: 30 2016: 15 2017: 23 2018: 20 2019: 15 2020: 17 2021 to date (based on press releases): 13 (1 Clarksburg, 4/13) + 2 (White Oak, 3/25) + 1 (Silver Spring, 3/15) + 1 (North Kensington, 3/8) + 1 (Gaithersburg, 2/5) + 1 (Wheaton, 1/23) + 1 (Hillandale, 1/19) + 1 (Wheaton/Glenmont, 1/14) + 1 (Bel Pre, 1/12) + 1 (Gaithersburg, 1/10) + 1 (Germantown, 1/5) + 1 (Clarksburg, 1/4)). For homicides to be up 300% compared to last year, the 2021 year-end total would be 51. I will note also that several of those homicides were domestic-related, and domestic-related homicides are up all over the country, reflecting the increase in domestic violence during the pandemic.
You’re missing 2 (Takoma Park, 4/7).
Shot by a cop. Do you subtract those from the murder total since a cop did it so it must be fine?
Didn’t you know? It’s not murder if a cop kills you.
It’s murder if “anyone”, police included , kill in self defense or defense of another. Cops are often put in that situation much more than regular people. When they act outside of that self defense, they should be charged with murder. Years ago, they often got away with it, but it’s much more common now to charge them when the use of force was actually unlawful.
You sound totally ludicrous making this argument in proximity to this particular police murder.
