Are you a teacher, PP? If so - know that millions of women have given up jobs and career advancement to stay at home to help their children. Millions. We are, as women, employed at rates now from the 1970s. So, if you are a teacher and refuse to work IN PERSON - QUIT. Stop collecting your pay other and benefits. And stop the drama of “you are sacrificing” if you have to be in person. Are you a smoker, obese or above 65? Move on.
No, but I am pregnant, so my risk of serious illness, mechanical ventilation, and death from COVID are elevated. Again, I’m a teacher, not a martyr. I am working from home until September, when I’ll decide whether or not to return, based on what’s best for MY family. Other women are not required to work under unsafe conditions so you can go back to work. That isn’t feminism. Again, you are not my boss and you don’t dictate the conditions of my employment. Feel free to quit your own job if you’re unhappy with your life-you don’t get to dictate how society runs during a pandemic. If you have a hard time managing your career and motherhood, then have a conversation with your husband about it. It’s sad how our country has refused to fund schools and now expects teachers to be invested in “saving the economy” by putting their lives at risk. We know how we’ll be paid back-not at all.
