Think carefully when you accuse of thoughtlessness -- do you know how much embedded energy is in your cruelty-free puffer jacket?  The amount of petroleum required to produce the polyester fabric?  The amount of water used to produce the fibers?  The carbon footprint of the shipping?  Were the workers who assembled it paid a living wage?  The environmental and social impact of producing a new jacket is not insignificant.  But you don't "see" that.  It's easy to "see" that a fur coat required the sacrifice of living creatures.  The garment industry causes damage to many waterways, uses fossil fuels, and abuses human labor.  But keep judging those who are wearing a 50 year old jacket while you are wearing this season's latest fast fashion.[/quote]
