I love how now everyone is concerned about equity. Face it - you are still only concerned about your own kid but using the equity argument to try to get schools to reopen. Cute.
Some systems want to send esol, special ed and poor kids back first as it's thought dl is especially hard on them. Meanwhile many of my Facebook friends are like "hell no we won't be the experimental guinea pigs. Send the rich white kids first if it's supposed to be safe!" And if schools tried that it would also be racist. What superintendent wants that kind of headache? Just send everyone back at once.
As soon as it can be done safely which is likely in a couple months when there's a vaccine. I just don't see they have the money to refit the ventilation in many of these neglected schools anyway and part-time school that would be the only real option since the schools are already severely over capacity is even less helpful than full-time DL.
I am so tired of this "we will have a vaccine in a couple months" talk. We have NO IDEA when or if a vaccine will be available. There is a real chance it never will. There is also a real chance it will take years. Oh and of course the chance that is doesn't work well. Not to mention IF it does happen it will take literal months to have everyone vaccinated. Planning re-opening schools based on a theoretical vaccine is incredibly stupid. Planning on that could mean our schools stay closed for years.
+1. And while I will forgive random parents for taking this view, it appalls me that many districts are planning with an imminent vaccine in mind as well.
