College Park, Downtown Hyattsville, Riverdale Park, Cheverly, Bowie, and Greenbelt are all very safe. I have lived and worked in this areas for over 20 years. I have never felt unsafe. (I can't speak to other parts of the Rt 1 corridor because I don't go that often but I am sure that it is also fine)
Hyattsville is safe?? Seriously?
Very safe. Have you ever been in Historic Hyattsville?? Don't be a racist.
With a crime rate of 56 per one thousand residents, Hyattsville has one of the highest crime rates in America compared to all communities of all sizes - from the smallest towns to the very largest cities. One's chance of becoming a victim of either violent or property crime here is one in 18. Don't be a racist.
From low property prices to high crime to low ranking schools show why Hyattsville is so down in the list. You can live there all you want but don't expect it to Bethesda or Mclean.
I would rather die than live in McLean and I loathe Bethesda. Most people moving to Hyattsville are priced out of Takoma Park - and nobody in TP world consider McLean or Bethesda as desirable. Chevy Chase, maybe.
Why do you loathe Bethesda? The downtown part is nicer than any of the other “downtowns” in the DC suburbs and there are gorgeous houses within walking distance in Chevy Chase and west of Arlington Rd.
Ugly new construction McMansions; chain-centric; worst parking in the DMV; traffic congestion (fueled in part by heinous parking sitch); downtown could not sustain bookstore, etc. There is a think line between McLean and Bethesda. Wouldn't live in either one.
