I find it hilarious everyone mentioning URM's as the reason Asians are discriminated against. No, Asians are not getting discriminated against only URM's, they are being discriminated against when compared to white Americans, despite white Americans being vastly in control of the US government/industry/economy/culture/etc. It's pretty much a way to keep the wealthy whites in power throughout industries through legacy admissions, donor admissions and esoteric sports admissions.
I think this is a story that you wrote down, which is great. But it's not true. At one point, it may have been. What's driving discrimination against Asians is the well-oiled diversity and inclusion machine inside of each college. Every department/school has some kind of diversity officer or assistant dean of inclusion presiding over admissions targets and placement targets with firms, among other programs for students who are enrolled. These people are almost always black or hispanic and their entire goal is to increase admissions of those groups - NOT Asians. There is no similar advocate for white or asian students. The way the diversity and inclusion machine views whites and asians is very different. They basically view it as white vs. non-white admission slots. The more asians are admitted, the fewer non-white admission slots available for URMs. So, if they can say things like "Asians have bad personalities", they can take more of those slots for hispanic and black applicants. I promise you, this is what drives our current environment. I see it every day from the inside.
