I don’t understand why some are saying their students are receiving no new content. At my grade level we have taught poetry and are starting persuasive reviews in language arts. We are moving ahead with ancient cultures in SS. In math we started two digit by one digit multiplication and area. All new content. Much of it is pre-recorded, but some has been synchronous and we have been expanding that.
I’m not giving my students “new” content. Their ability to truly learn and retain it right now is questionable. What’s doable for some is stressful and overwhelming for others. I have no way to truly assess if they grasped the material in order to build on it. If teachers want to do it, I think it’s fine, but it’s also effort that’s not going to achieve a great ROI. We will be repeating it next year for them. I am focusing on going deep and reinforcing skills the kids need to go into the next grade but I’m just not overloading them with tons of new info.
