Just a cold, nothing to see here: Italy says it's had 41 new COVID-19 deaths in just 24 hours https://www.euronews.com/2020/03/05/two-more-people-die-from-covid-19-in-france-says-the-country-s-health-ministry?fbclid=IwAR3VYJV97bi8rwK9zxZXsjA4SrLXlkxpyURmYvMy0Nwyz-8oXXMJfzQMIv4
All elderly with pre existing health conditions
And their deaths don't matter? Some of us have parents we'd rather not see dead.
Life ends with death. Everyone has to die of some cause. If you already have pre-existing health conditions and late in life, then you are at higher risk of dying from a health related cause, rather than a tragic accident. It isn't about not valuing life - it is about the circle of life. Italy has the second most elderly people in the world. They are going to have a higher percentage of deaths due to this.
wow. so you are okay with this? We should do nothing and let the elderly "go" naturally? that's a different viewpoint to say the least.
I am not saying throw them to the wolves. I am saying that whenever you have a disease that is novel and new, it is going to take out the most vulnerable. Be it in humans or animals, the weak and vulnerable are going to go first. That is the reality of life. Many elderly people are more vulnerable than the young. The death rate in Italy is high because they have such an elderly population. Of course protect who you can but the higher % of elderly who are doing has happened many, many times before. It happens even now with pneumonia, influenza, broken hips etc. We just don't give daily tallies of how many people die every day from influenza. If we did, you would see the same pattern with much higher rates of death. Even with vaccines, the elderly still have a far higher mortality rate from influenza. We don't go to extremes to ensure the elderly never catch the flu despite knowing they are more likely to die from it as well. We don't keep the elderly from traveling or going out because there is a risk they could catch the flu and die. In 2018-2019 there were more than 25000 people over 65 in the US who died from influenza- most between November and March/April. If we were reporting daily numbers during flu season - it would be about 170 people over 65 dying daily. https://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/burden/2018-2019.html
