No 6 year old white kid would ever be arrested, and I'm white.
+1. Black persons here—as soon as I saw this thread I knew the kid had to be black. White kids don’t get treated this way. I’m parent to a black daughter just a couple of years older. Horrible to read, as I imagined how scared and confused my own kid would be.
The teacher and the police officer were also black...so there's that.
PO here. Overseer mentality. White kids don’t get treated like this to the same extent black/brown kids are.
Yes, they do but if it makes you happy our principal treats the white kids differently and they get more severely punished than other kids. She also makes nasty comments about how they look. She had the nerve to tell me to get my child hair cut differently as she didn't like it.
PP here. Your anecdata not withstanding, there is a large body of evidence that suggests that black kids are treated differently in schools--they are more harshly disciplined, are more likely to be punished for dress code violations, etc. Many black people I know (self included) make sure that are children are on their very best behavior at school. I've had to tell my 8yo that she can't do or say certain things that she sees her non-black friends do in school with impunity.
