If she had googled him she would have seen nothing to cause her alarm.  The age difference between them wasn't that great - she was 23, he 31.  As far as I'm aware he didn't have a criminal history, by all appearances he really did seem like a run of the mill computer geek.  Mackenzie obviously felt comfortable letting her guard down with him.

Mackenzie had a job working in a lab.  She was also just with her family and they knew about this plane ticket and that she was flying back to school. She managed to afford the plane ticket out to attend her grandma's funeral, it was probably a round trip ticket...not sure why this guy that she had likely never met before would have paid for it.[/quote]

I don't think he paid for the plane ticket. A man who does that doesn't meet his prostitute in a park at 3AM. She had someone in her family pay for the ticket (mom or dad) but didn't want to ask them for cash for her habit.

Question now is, what habit, if any, did Mackenzie have?  I remember what it was like to be addicted to cigarettes.  If I ran out of cigarettes, I would have walked alone in the middle of the night to the convenience store to get a pack.  Not smart, but I would have done it.

I just find it hard to believe that there isn't more to this whole thing.  The business of meeting this stranger in an isolated park at 3am makes no sense.  There had to be a reason beyond just wanting to feel desired.  I really do suspect that drugs played a role in this.

Guys. She was a prostitute. She was doing this with several men. She bragged about being an experienced SB and posted half naked pics online. She was absolutely thrilled, in that pathetic way girls with zero self esteem have, with being an object of desire for as many men as possible and they were happy to pay for meals, clothes, jewelry etc. to have their own pet college slut. She probably thought she could parlay it into a lifestyle of being a trophy wife who never has to work. She would have done anything any of them asked.

I don't understand how a girl would completely toss aside any sense of her own personal safety to meet a strange man alone in a dark park. I'm guessing she felt she "knew" him after talking to him on line for awhile.  And the timing is probably just b/c that's when her flight came in.  And maybe she was short on $$ at the time.

The PP who mentioned that all naive teen/20-somethings are prey -- I agree.  I think back to the stupid things I did being out on the streets of DC after the bars closed and not having enough $$ for a cab, so walking in dicey areas at dicey times of the morning -- we were just lucky.  One time a cab driver pulled over to give us a ride even though we didn't have money for the fare (and he already had another fare in his cab) b/c he must have thought it was too dangerous for me and my friend to be out walking.  It's sad that women have to live like they are being hunted ...  :( [/quote]
