Someone has to point out the obvious: How many people do you know have seen and enjoyed Frozen? Now how about The Princess and the Frog? Which princesses are in most demand, Ariel-Elsa-Cinderella-etc? Or Mulan-Tiana-etc. This is really just a matter of demand. And it’s much greater for certain characters than others.
Frozen is the most recent. Yes, it's the freshest. And?
Way for both of you to skip over Moana,a very popular and very much not white princess who kicks a
I guess the Frozen 2 trailers did supersede Moana in my mind. But I dunno, other than some issues about costumes, POC of DCUM don't seem all that enthused about Moana. My kids found it scarier than Frozen, so we haven't watched it as much, tbh.
Moana is number 1 in my house, and we're white people. DD LOVES it and DS too. Know all the songs and love how brave she is. They also like Frozen but Moana is the one who they want to emulate.
I know Moana is a Disney film but the animation work and character design makes it look more like Pixar. It didn't have that traditional Disney feel (like for instance the Princess and the Frog did), which is why I think its popularity lags. PTF sucked simply because she spent 80% of the film as a frog. I would have loved it more without that.
Moana's animation was just like frozen, it was just in an ocean. And it was very successful by any standard. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.forbes.com/sites/scottmendelson/2017/01/09/box-office-disneys-moana-is-no-frozen-but-its-still-a-big-hit/amp/ Frozen was a cultural phenomenon mostly because of a fantastic song and being the first real quality original princess movie for the current gen and for being the first princess movie ever to anchor more around female relationships instead of a romantic relationship. Additionally, it was the first real quality film of the Disney renaissance. Princess and the Frog kicked off a new era in 2009 after more than 10 years since the last princess led musical movie. It was def hit or miss. Followed by the much more solid Tangled in 2010, the blah Brave from Pixar in 2012. Then came Frozen in 2013. Let it Go led it soaring financial heights. Moana carried that into another excellent musical character driven financially successful film. Frozen also didn't have a traditional Disney feel, which is why it took off like it did. A movie about sisters and family not about romantic love. Moana is a fantastic movie that shows Disney has devoted years and long term planning into more diverse stories. I don't know why anyone would be arguing against it. Of the 4 Disney princess movies out of the Disney animation studio since 2009 two have featured princesses of color and two white princesses.
