STA's program is on the rise due to Colin Heeter recruiting efforts with Next Level Club program. Prior to Colin arriving on the staff, STA had hardly done any type of recruiting / outreach with the area club programs. He is also a better coach than Hyland and it shows.
Gawd I really hope you're not a STA parent. I generally do not engage on these boards but this post got me going. Agree that having the next level connection helps. But not in the way you suggest. More STA boys are involved in club lacrosse because of Heeter for sure. Before only a few boys did club, and they were for the VA clubs (VLC, Blackwolf, Madlax). Most STA boys do not live in VA, so that might explain the low numbers. Now, with the Heeter connection and Next Level in close-in Bethesda, more boys are playing club, which means they are playing in the fall and in the summer, so basically year round. So kids are getting better and better. But I know of no kids who were "recruited" from Next Level to play for STA. My son is a Next Level player and we know all of the STA-Next Level families and almost all the boys on varsity or JV started at STA in lower or middle school. Totally disagree with your slam against Hyland. Hyland is the head coach. He's a quiet presence on the sidelines. That's Heeter who is doing all of the yelling. Two different styles. From what I observe, they are a perfect complement to each other on the field and off. STA is 7-0. Heeter has not been even in the sidelines for most of these games because he had to be on leave. Total team effort by the boys. Total team effort by all of the coaches.
