Yeah. Such an unnecessary and distracting detail to add. My guess before tonight's eoisode was that he bought that wine bottle they showed many episodes back, which led to someone to drink too much (Jon or a friend or a girlfriend), which then resulted in a horrible car accident with a tragic death or permanent disability involved. Btw there's a reddit thread on the show, with many more active and numerous participants talking about tonight's episode if you want to check it out. As for my take on it is that the Big Reveal was hugely underwhelming and it didn't even make much sense. Barbara's reaction and what she said after Jon's friend's death influenced him to choose to live fully, to pursue a relationship with a random woman he met that day. So he found a purpose in life, he married her, raised a family, lived 17 more years, and then what, threw it all away due to financial pressures? I get that they writers pointed out Jon was "broken" long before he met D, that he silently suffered all these years, he repressed his trauma, but how did he survive 17 years and then just snapped like that, leaving it all behind? Maggie said it's not just one thing, that its a lot of pebbles stacked up, but the tv show writers did not even show us a small pile. Just two pebbles. Super not convincing. I don't think I'll be watching season 2.
