McLean beat Langley at girls and boys varsity basketball last Friday. You can see how much school spirit there is at McLean and why people wouldn't want to be rezoned out of the school in this clip: https://twitter.com/jonroetman/status/1083890067221942273
We were at both those games with friends and what your clip doesn't show is how rude McLean was to the Langley visitors. All sorts of profane chants directed at them. Not welcoming in the least, and if that's their version of "school spirit," count us out.
You must be joking. The Langley and McLean kids acted like they do at every rivalry game. Or almost: the Langley kids didn't do thousands of dollars of damage punching holes in the McLean bleachers like they did a few years ago. There were large student sections from both schools (Langley in white and McLean in black): https://twitter.com/jonroetman/status/1083875471971008512 When the Langley students walked out towards the end, the McLean students waved "bye" at them and some Langley kids responded by flipping the bird: https://twitter.com/jonroetman/status/1083907510527029248 My advice is that you not attend Langley/McLean games in the future if you can't handle losing or rowdy kids. You'll probably want to avoid Robinson/Lake Braddock, Yorktown/W-L, and Centreville/Westfield games too.
McLean kids weren’t innocently “waving bye” - spare us. They were flipping off Langley kids too. I was at that game. Langley was responding to the rudeness of McLean. Please don’t pretend McLean kids aren’t equally rude during Langley/McLean games. Anyone who’s ever attended one knows you’re lying. DP
I was at the game and did not see any McLean kids "flipping off" Langley kids. They chanted the things the winning side chants: "I believe that we will win" and "nah nah nah nah, hey hey-ey goodbye." The Langley kids kids were flipping the bird on their way out while the McLean side celebrated. It's mostly just kids being kids, but only Langley kids have had to repay thousands of dollars in damage to McLean. This was a while back and the Langley principal made the kids write letters apologizing.
I was at this game as well and the McLean kids most definitely were flipping off Langley. They were also chanting their ridiculous "Silver Spoon" chant, directed at Langley. Real mature.
OMG! "Silver Spoon"! I also heard "Daddy's Money," plus "Traitor" directed towards the player who transferred from McLean to Langley. As welll as Langley kids chanting "Let's Play Football" to remind McLean that Langley beat them. Of course it's immature, they're in high school. But I didn't see any McLean kids flipping off Langley. That's what you do when you're losing. And if "Silver Spoon" gets under your skin, maybe you need to ask FCPS to add a little diversity to your school.
 As if McLean is any more diverse than Langley... kind of funny to see a group of kids from basically the same demographic, razzing another group due to perceived wealth.
