Kate hater, I think I know who you are. You should do an AMA so we can understand more about your obsessive personality. You are exaggerating on so many levels, and you “seem” to know a lot. I also think you have some kind of personal stake in seeing the monarchy fall. You seem almost gleeful as you write it. K&w will have many years ahead to increase their work. Maybe, also, they don’t agree with the queen’s exact approach. Maybe, one or both has developed tremendous anxiety. Maybe they have regular terror threats against them and their tiny children. It could be anything..the point is you don’t know. Back off and see how they do in five years.
NP. I have posted on this thread. I made the post about how I think some posters here are taking this discussion oddly personally. I have literally never posted anything about Kate Middleton ever on DCUM before this thread and I have posted on DCUM for years. I find this discussion interesting because I used to live in the UK and the difference in how people in the UK perceive the monarchy now versus 20 years ago when I lived there is palpable. Some other poster on this thread said that he or she isn't sure that Prince George will ever take the throne, and now I think that is actually possible, which is shocking to me. It is surprising to me how fast public sentiment has changed in the UK, and I think a lot of that is due to the behavior of the younger royals, including Kate. Your post certainly hasn't changed my opinion that people are being weirdly defensive on this thread. Trying to dismiss a variety of posters as one likely imaginary poster with a supposed vendetta against Kate Middleton is a prime example of bizarre defensiveness.
But I don’t think the opposition to the monarchy is because Kate doesn’t “work” enough. It’s because of the rise of social media and everyone being able to see so plainly how ridiculous it is that these people are living an opulent life funded by taxpayers for no reason other than the family they were born or married into. It’s an outdated system and time to let it go.
I am PP and I agree with what you wrote, but I think the anti-monarchist sentiment would be somewhat mitigated if there was a perception that Kate and Will in particular were doing something -- anything -- to help their country that sponsors their lavish lifestyle rather than just taking advantage. It wouldn't fix everything but it would help. I think this is true of Will as well as Kate.
But what is it she can even do? Attend events and smile? How does any of this help their country? It doesn’t which is why people realize more and more that it’s a joke.
She could do a lot, I think. Start a foundation, go visit underprivileged schools to highlight the importance of education. Visit mental health facilities and have open conversation about mental health. Go once a week to a soup kitchen to encourage others.to do the same. She could have a huge impact with a small amount of effort.
