If you are on an anonymous board and want to make the opposing side look bad, you can do the hard work of arguing against them, or you can go the easier route of impersonating them in some dipshit way.

On an anonymous board, it's half smoke and mirrors. Never know which half.

I'm a Democrat and liberal. If I read something really stupidly written or far out from reasonable -- and purported to be from a Republican and/or conservative, I assume it's someone shining me on.

DP.  I see what you're saying and agree - however, that PP actually does sound like many of the liberals here on DCUM.  Angry, incoherent, and raging.  We see this all the time, so I have no doubt it's a real liberal, not someone impersonating one.  Not surprising at all.

They don't sound like me or any of the liberals I know. Many sound like the fringe wingnuts I read about. The same for the jackass-sounding "conservatives."

And when I try to figure out whether it's more likely this anonymous site in DC is populated by a surprising number of fringe wingnuts vs. people from god knows where just trying to stir the pot, well, I think I know which is more likely.

Sometimes I wonder how much is sockpuppeting just to have someone to point to and say "See? THAT'S what they are like. I told you!"

Anyway. I think it's productive only to engage people that don't seem half-cracked and let the rest talk to themselves. I remain convinced that the average conservative is neither foaming at the mouth, nor taking off his or her pants for clandestine rendezvous.
