I think you are painting a pretty nasty picture of counselors. They don't "rustle up" recommendations, the student does. Counselors definitely try to manage expectations when it comes to the really selective schools, but they don't submit the application or control the submission of anything but their letter and the transcript. And I'm pretty sure they write ONE recommendation, load it to Naviance, and it gets sent to the schools the student selects on the Common App. [/quote]
