I don't' think I'm confusing anything.  Scroll down to Enrolled by county. 670 from FCPS, 200 Loudon, etc., down to zero or one from the outlying west and southern counties. http://digital.uvamagazine.org/articles/2020-insight/.  I don't know anyone who has turned down UVA for another school except for one truly exceptional student who received both the Jefferson Scholar offer and Princeton.  He chose Princeton full freight over the Jefferson (free ride).[/quote]

You haven't been through the game, have you?  So it goes like this.  Your child is one of 420 in the junior year at Langley High School.  You sit down with the college counselor and your child's B+ A- record and suggest UVA.  They play a "I love lucy" laugh-track back at you and then suggest CNU, JMU, GMU (need a 3.9 now) , etc etc etc.  Langley is going to only support those top 50 students in a class of 420 who have the 4.0+ GPA and test scores and ECs.  Who writes the letters of recommendation?  The faculty at the director off the college counselor?  Who sends the test scores and GPA and notes from school?  The college counselor.  Who makes sure the group of 50 "stars" are present when HYP and UVA come through?  The college advisor?  Who helps coordinate with English teachers to write the essays. The college counselor.  Yes, you can technically APPLY to William & Mary and UVA but no one at the high school is going to write good letters for your B student.  They aren't going to pick up a phone and say "I'm sending you my strongest class every this year, watch out for XYZ".  They aren't going to make sure that your letters are glowing.  Apply away!  Good luck even getting your transcript sent properly.[/quote]

Well, then, if you are so knowledgeable, please tell me how the single college counselor at Langley is going to support your B student in their application to UVA?  Are they going to rustle up those great letters of recommendation?  Make sure you meet the right representations?  You do know the schools signal their best and brights to particular schools every year.  The moment UVA seens your kid's B application come through with late or lukewarm letters and no phone calls you think your "eye roll" is going to work?  Please tell me.  I'm dying to know.[/quote]
