As has been pointed out, Huntington is the area bounded by Telegraph Road and Route 1. Huntington has a large area with a lot of smaller WWII townhouses and SFH, some of which are in the process of being purchased and rehabbed. This area of WWII-built housing is slowly, and unsteadily, gentrifying. The area near the Metro station is improving the most quickly and the most steadily, especially with the new condos that have gone in. Huntington also includes a very well-established and extremely nice gated 5 building condo complex complete parks indoor/outdoor pools, tennis courts and treed parks. Huntington is directly across from two of Alexandria's most nice and expensive communities - Old Town and Belle Haven - with the Beltway and Route 1 being the divider. There is one poster who is vociferous in his/her lamentation about Route 1 and clearly has a strongly held view. I don't agree with that poster about this particular section of Route 1 but I doubt there is much on which I would agree with that poster anyway. In any event, I hope this information helps OP. Good luck in your home search. I am not a realtor nor am I a Huntington resident. My husband and I are Alexandria residents who invest in real estate. Huntington is one of the areas in which we own rental properties. As I pointed out in a previous post, choose your block carefully. We look for blocks that have at least one or two houses that have begun to turn so that we know that we are on a block with like-minded people who are invested in their community. FWIW, Huntington also is one of the most racially and ethnically diverse communities in Alexandria and people of all races and ethnicities actively participating in the gentrification.
