NP here.  We go 2.5 hours in the other direction (Northern Neck).  And the drive is a breeze.  It is actually relaxing for us (the only time it wasn't was when we were in potty-training stages.  Yikes!).  We have landmarks along the way that the children (used to be tots but now the oldest are in college) still talk about and reference in conversations.  Yes, there is something to be said for always visiting new places but, for our family, it [i]is[/i] a way of life and we thrive on the community that we've built there.

Anyway, even though we're in a different direction, I just wanted to lend my encouragement to what you're doing and I'm loving reading the insights that folks have about the areas![/quote]
