NP. If you follow her regularly, you will notice that she's in therapy and on meds. I commend her for speaking openly about mental illness, it's nothing to be ashamed of.
Again, nobody is saying it is. I'm talking the screeds that boil down to "my 3 year old didn't want toast." It's excessive. Once in awhile? Sure. But every day is a mini essay on the agony of parenting. It's like she wrote once how hard it was, got a lot of praise for verbalizing what many parents feel, and was like OH! That's my hook! Endless drama and angst over how I literally almost didn't make it through the day today because my kids make my life unbearably hard and we had Mac and cheese again for dinner so I'm relatable!
OP here. Yes, these are the types of posts that I've seen and have wondered about along similar lines. Seems like a lot of her followers really love these posts.
There is a very specific internet consumer that she's catering to at this point. The kind who subscribe to sites like Scary Mommy and mom.me and like "Open Letter to my son's future wife" posts. People who basically only want to read about parenting and how hard others find it, pretty much. That schtick seems to have worked for her but in my personal opinion, she was better when she was just tweeting as Honest Toddler. Those posts were snappy, funny, and poked fun of parents and the crazy things they do and the humorous parts of life with toddlers. When she moved into specifically writing all about herself and her own real kids is when she lost me. Those kids don't deserve to be a platform for Bunmi to write about her own neuroses and fails and issues. It isn't fair to them. These types of "writers" are so short sighted. One day their kids are going to read this stuff and be like "Yeah, it's great 26,000 other women related to this enough to like it on Facebook. But all I see is how much you hated parenting and how hard I made your life. Awesome."
