I can find nothing in OPs post that indicates that s/he doesn't realize "that Africa is a continent".  If the name in question is selected from ANY country in African, then is it not an African name?!

I am from NYC and I have an African name.  When people inquire about my name I simply say it's African and tell them the meaning. Not once in 48 years has someone asked me which country specifically.
