Mattress on the floor is fine but I cannot imagine making someone sleep on the floor no mattress. Sure everyone does it, but would you want to sleep on the floor. I'd be pissed if you had my kid on the floor.
You have girls, I assume? Or preschool-toddler-maaaaybe kindergartners? Not boys for sure. OP, boys don't worry about things like sleeping arrangements. They crash where they crash. Pallets of comforters & blankets, sleeping bags, the beanbag chair, couches, trundles or bunkbeds, all fine. No sharing beds if they are older than four. If only one is there, your kid in bed/guest in air mattress is fine. You have zero need to entertain them. Zero. Have some outdoorsy things like nerf blasters, balls, etc laying around. Plan for a couple of movies. Let them game all night if they want. Have LOTS of food (make sure soda is bottled with a lid for spills), and more food. Make breakfast. Pick a lights out time (for my kid that age it would be midnight.) Great movies for that age: The Hobbit, Star Trek (earlier ones are okay too), The Sandlot, Independence Day (depending on their parents), Apollo 13 (fantastic for this age), Goonies, War Games, indiana Jones (1 or 3, not 2), Karate Kid (great for underdog type kids)...the list goes on (don't give them too many choices, pick 3-5 to have on hand) If they want to do video games all night? Fine. Put the movie in about two hours before lights out after the lay out their sleeping bags and get into PJs, so around ten PM. Boy sleepovers are SOOO simple, especially at this.l age. Don't overthing, orchestrate or hover and keep the food rolling and it will go great. Signed, mom of three boys.
Listen to this mom. She knows what's up!
