Reading the concerns about the peer group I wonder: how much mingling/friendship is there at Wilson between black and white students of similar SES? I've heard there is a "school within a school" for the high achievers, but is there racial segregation even within that high achieving group? Sorry if this is a stupid question - my kids aren't yet at Wilson, we're white, and I'm not American.
I wonder too. My son has many white friends from Deal. I can't imagine that all of a sudden that stops. I hate to say it, but I think the division is more around class than anything.
White Wilson parent here. PP is largely correct - it is largely a class divide, not a race divide. It also depends what your kid is into. If he plays basketball or football, he might not hang with the white kids. If a white kid plays baseball or soccer, he might end up not hanging with AA kids. Certain clubs in the school - music and theatre come to mind - are a really good mix. Others are not. So much of this depends on your child and their interests.
