I lived in PG county for my entire life up until recently. For the duration of my time there as an adult w/kids I did everything in my power not to send my kids to the schools. I went into to debt to keep them in private school. They went to Holy Family in Hillcrest Heights, and although there was nothing stellar about the curriculum, the controlled disciplined atmosphere is what I found was reason enough to keep them there. When an atmosphere is under control kids will automatically do better because they don't have a bunch of distractions. Following my divorce last year, my youngest two had to come out of private school and boy oh boy was it a culture shock. My middle sons grades were terrible and he complained constantly about the distractions. At the time he was living with my ex and attending Potomac. My ex is a good dad, but not really hands on when it comes to staying on the kids for projects, homework etc. I feel like the schools coupled with the new home life greatly impacted my sons performance. I live in Montgomery county, so this coming school year he will be living with me. Hopefully the schools on this end are better.
