I don't dispute his assertions that the actions of the West contributed to the rise of fundamentalism, but I really take issue with this part.  Would he conversely now find drone strikes against random civilians in the middle east "great" or "deserved" in light of 9/11.  If not, why aren't those people "representatives" for those who committed the terrorist actions of 9/11? [/quote]

Correct. If we / the U.S. / the west / whoever you blame is the perpetrator of the mess, who could possibly justify revenge on ... The descendants of, or the innocent distant distant relations of the perpetrators. Or at best unknowing citizens of the same country who were born into the results of the historical past. But who had no hand in it. The people killed that day were not responsible.
