If this is a sports league, you should discuss this policy with the league director.  We had a situation where our coach was totally inappropriate with the kids (similar age) telling them they were the worst team in the league and physically stripping their hoodies off of them.  I had a chat with the director and she agreed that the things I mentioned and more were not the kind of behavior a coach should have.  We left, but the coach (who was a volunteer) was given a lot of supervision by the head of youth teams for the rest of the season (they are desperate for coaches and didn't want to lose a willing, although inappropriate coach).

Anyway -- 50 seems like a lot.  and "punishment" for something a 9 yr old can't control seems like the wrong idea.  Chances are the league director does NOT want the coach to be punishing 9 yr olds.  They want to keep the kids interested and participating in the league.[/quote]
