Also, if the price is too low. It's stolen. My Mac Book was stolen from my house and sold for $50 on the street. I managed to track it down (the person who had it was an idiot) but the police found the thief and the buyer and charged both because you are never going to buy a legit Mac Book for $50.
I feel like most people who steal Apple products are idiots. Doesn't everyone have Find My ____ installed? I found an iPhone on the Metro once and was so paranoid carrying it to find a police officer. I was positive that either the cops or the owner was going to tackle me at any moment thinking I was the one who stole it.
Someone found my dads IPhone and held it till they could get to the Apple Store. We put a message on the phone to call us and they did in minutes. The tracking only works when the phone is on. There are a few decent people like you. I would rather you or the people who found it keep it as security could steal it. Best to take it to an Apple Store. I would not buy a used one.
I found an Iphone 6 a few months ago at TJMaxx a Friendship Heights. I gave it to the security at the store. it did not even cross my mind to take it with me and take to the Apple store, even when I took it to give it to security I held it in plain view far from my jacket or purse, I was so concerned somebody could see me and think I was actually trying to steal it. I think the suggestion to take to the Apple store may be good for the owner if the finder is not a thief, but is bad for the finder. if you leave the place where you find the phone with the phone, you may be accused to be a thief. saying "but I meant to take it to the Apple store" may not really help you.
