Our pool allows alcohol, and I would not have a problem with my husband having a beer while appropriately watching our children in the pool. He needs to be in arms length for our non-swimmer, he can't drink to excess, and he has to be sober to drive home. I trust my DH. If you don't trust your DH with alcohol you need to address that.
Would you trust him if his response to you asking him not to drink was to pre game? What about if he had a drink at every break?
If I asked my husband not to drink, he'd probably look at me like I had two heads and ask why. My 220 lb husband could drink at pretty much every break for several hours and be ok. He generally takes longer than 15 minutes to down a beer, however, and he's not going to chug one. Also, at some breaks the kids are going to want to play ping pong with him, and he's unlikely to drink while doing that. It sounds to me like the OP got a bit weird at her husband, and he pushed back. They need to have a conversation. Is her issue that he can't moderate his drinking? Is her issue that she's uncomfortable with alcohol and a non swimmer? Is she just uncomfortable with alcohol at the pool, period? They need to sort this out.
