OP - you said big classes and long days are part of the problem for your child. All the privates help on the small class size issue, but could be worse on long days. Sports, ECs and homework are so built into the fabric of most privat upper schools, that long days and crunching the evening for homework are the norm.
oP here. Privates won't be worse on long days nor homework than Basis is, I assure you-first class on 8th at Basis is 7;45, there is only a 25 minute break for lunch, no sports teams nor arts elective classes are 55 minutes and so you have 9 academic classes, 8 of which have comprehensive exams. The school has an accellerated curriculum, and a lot of homework as well. DC also commutes 2 hours a day. I went to a big 3 school in DC, so unless things have drastically changed, Basis has longer days, and that is before travel teams, extracurriculars, and teacher hours.
OK. You convinced me.
